Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for September 5, 2022! The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Check your voter registration and register to vote if you’re eligible to vote. Pick an action or two and commit yourself to doing them. As President Obama said in his farewell speech: Believe in your ability to bring change. Show up, dive in, stay at it.
Events
- Thursday, September 8, 2022, 2:00 PM: Escondido Library Board of Trustees Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda includes Item #2 on Youth Services/Literacy Update and Item #4 on Strategic Plan Goal Measurements. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at escondido.org here. Reproductive Rights
- Read-up on Michigan election board rejects abortion rights initiative, MN Abortion Laws Create an “Access Island” — but for Whom? and 1 in 3 American women have already lost abortion access. More restrictive laws are coming.
- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation such as H.R.8373 to “codify access to contraception into federal law” and H.R.8296 to codify abortion rights. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.8373/H.R.8296 (and had previously praised the overturn of Roe vs. Wade and also voted against codifying abortion rights) but H.R.8373/H.R.8296 passed the House. Homelessness
- Read-up on Escondido’s Shelter for Homeless Families and Advocates say 'Cool Zones' not accessible in all parts of San Diego County.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and ask for homeless services and programs such as a creation of a Safe Parking Program similar to Encinitas and a Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement similar to La Mesa along with an expansion & more collaboration with San Diego County Mobile Crisis Response Teams. Voting Plan
- Check your voter registration and register to vote if you’re eligible to vote.
- Plan to vote. The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Mail ballots will be mailed to all voters starting October 8th and early in-person voting will start on October 10th.
- Explore San Diego Registrar Election Information and Escondido Election 2022 (scroll down to “Candidate Information by District” and “Ballot Measures” section).
- Note that the Escondido Municipal Election will include the following candidates (so far): Paul "Mac" McNamara and Dane White for Mayor, Consuelo Martinez and Mike Johnson-Palomares for City Council District 1, and Joe Garcia and Jeff Griffith for City Council District 2 (both districts recently re-districted). City ballot measures include: ¾ cent sales tax (Measure E), term limits (Measure F) & treasure compensation (Measure G).
- And at the state-level, there will be 7 state ballot measures including Proposition 1 to codify a right to an abortion and contraceptives.
