Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for October 9, 2017! Local Indivisible groups in San Diego are fundraising for a public address system to be used in local rallies and events; $1,8175 has already been donated out of $3,000 goal so any contributions would be greatly appreciated!

Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to support legislation to prevent gun violence, such as funding for gun safety education, tighter background check and registration for gun purchases, banning bump stock accessories. Hunter received ~$3,000 from the NRA during the 2016 election cycle.]

Contact Senator Feinstein and Harris and thank them for co-sponsoring legislation to prevent gun violence: S.1916 (prohibit certain gun accessories), S.1923 (requires background check for gun purchases), S.1939 (repeal law stating gun manufacturers are not liable for crimes committed using their products), and S.1945 (prohibit gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition). Tell them you support government legislation and funding to prevent gun violence. There have been ~33 gun injuries & deaths of children age 0-11 so far in California in 2017, and ~1,100 gun deaths so far in California in 2017. See report on gun violence in California.

Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to renew the Children's Health Insurance Program for another 5 years. California will exhaust federal funding for CHIP by end of Q4 2017. Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to co-sponsor H.R.3591 (or the American Hope Act), which would provide DREAMers in Rep. Hunter’s district a path to citizenship, as well as signing a discharge petition for the bill. Note that Rep. Hunter has stated that “I will not support any immigration reform effort, including DACA, that does not address border enforcement and put national security first” so make it clear that you want a clean bill, no amendments to fund a border wall or increase deportations.
