Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for October 31, 2022! The General Election is in ~9 days on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, and mail ballots have been mailed to all registered voters. Sign up to track Where’s My Ballot and plan to vote!
Voting Plan
- Read-up on In Escondido race, three incumbents are seeking re-election, including the mayor, Escondido council candidate violated state law by using photo of himself in police uniform, Palomar Health Top Staff Has Favorites in Board Elections – As Does the Founder of its New Medical Group and Four justices seek return to ‘collegial’ Supreme Court.
- Read-up on CalMatters’ California Election 2022 Voter Guide & California Supreme Court: Election 2022 Candidates. Escondido Municipal Election will include the following candidates: Paul "Mac" McNamara and Dane White for Mayor, Consuelo Martinez and Mike Johnson-Palomares for City Council District 1, and Joe Garcia and Jeff Griffith for City Council District 2 (both districts were recently re-districted). City ballot measures include: ¾ cent sales tax (Measure E), term limits (Measure F) & treasure compensation (Measure G).
- Read-up on What you need to know to vote in California's 2022 General Election, How to vote when you don't have an address or are experiencing homelessness and How to vote in jail or if you have a record.
- Check your voter registration and register to vote if you’re eligible to vote.
- Plan to vote. The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Mail ballots have been mailed to all registered voters since October 8th. Ballots can be dropped off at any postal offices or Ballot Drop Box Locations starting from October 10th to November 7th, including Escondido Public Library, North Inland Live Well Center at Mission Ave, Major Market at Center Parkway, Oakmont of Escondido Hills. Check your voting registration or Where’s My Ballot to track your ballot.
- In-person voting can be made at the following Vote Center Locations from October 29th to November 7, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Election Day, November 8th, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. In Escondido: Westfield North County Community Room from October 29th to November 8th and Central Elementary School Family Resource Room, Park Avenue Community Center Oak Room, Reidy Creek Elementary School, Rincon Middle School, Rock Springs Elementary School, Oak Hill Elementary School, Orange Glen High School, Rose Elementary School, and Del Lago Academy from November 5th to November 8th.
Homelessness
- Read-up on Report: For every 10 homeless people who found housing in last year, 13 more people became homeless, San Diegans Are Falling into Homelessness Faster Than the Region Can House Them, and More San Diegans are newly homeless than being rehoused.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and ask the city to apply for the County’s $10 million grant program to create a Safe Parking Program similar to Encinitas and a Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement similar to La Mesa to address the immediate needs of the community. Gun Violence
- Read-up on An American Girl: Uvalde survivor is a voice for her slain friends. She's 10 years old.
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass more comprehensive legislation addressing gun violence like “a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, raising the age to be able to buy a gun from 18 to 21, universal background checks”. Note that Representative Issa voted no on the Gun Safety Bill (S.2938) along with other gun safety legislation like H.R.8, H.R.1446, H.R.7910, & H.R.2377.
