Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for October 12, 2020! Early voting has started and mail ballots went out on Oct. 5th. We are 22 days away from Election Day. Take the Census if you haven’t already (Escondido has a 73.9% response rate so far). Stay safe and healthy!
Events
- Tuesday, October 13, 2020, 9:00 AM: Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting via teleconference. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at sandiegocounty.gov here Agenda includes item #03 on SDC COVID-19 response update and #04 on redistricting commission. Election
- Vote! Mail ballots went out on Oct. 5th. Early in-person voting has also started on Oct. 5, 2020: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday starting Oct. 5 at the Registrar’s office and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31 through Monday, Nov. 2 at your assigned polling place or the Registrar’s office. Escondido City
- Read-up on Escondido City welcomes three deputy city managers.
- Contact Mayor McNamara and express concerns that there were no city council nor community involvements in the appointments of our deputy city managers which are high-level positions that affect the management of the city. Ask the mayor to establish better and more transparent processes for hiring of high-level positions within the city, e.g. deputy city managers, police department chiefs, fire department chiefs, etc., that include city council and community input.
Immigration
- Read-up on ‘We Need to Take Away Children,’ Jeff Sessions Said and U.S. border agency said it 'rescued' a Honduran woman and newborn. Then it separated them and detained her.
- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Harris and express concerns about continuing reports of inhumane treatment of asylum seeking families in the U.S.
SCOTUS
- Read-up on Amy Coney Barrett initially failed to disclose talks on Roe v. Wade hosted by anti-abortion groups on Senate paperwork.
- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Harris and ask them to commit to vigorously questioning [Justice] Barrett on everything she’s written and every opinion she’s given, from the ACA to Roe. Tell them that you object to the Senate Judiciary timeline for confirming a new SCOTUS. Trump Taxes, Abuse of Power and Public Health & Safety Endangerment
