Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for May 14, 2018! Again, the Statewide Primary Election is coming up on June 5, 2018. Mail ballots for vote-by-mail registered voters have started being mailed out, and KPBS has an informative segment about the process: Politics 101: How Do You Know Your Mail-In-Ballot Was Counted? - Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 4:30 PM: Escondido City Council Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. **Agenda includes a request that the "City Council accept $117,334 in funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the FY 2017 State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSGP)," half of which will be used “purchase license plate readers (LPR)”**
- Saturday, May 19, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM: San Diego March to Vote at 801 Front St, San Diego, CA 92101.
Monday
- Read-up on Jared Kushner's mistakes cost him nothing. The poor can lose food.
- Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to vote no on H.R.2 which “impose[s] even stricter work requirements on SNAP recipients”. See Republicans Are Trying to Sneak Through Cuts to Food Assistance and Remove Work Requirements for SNAP from the Farm Bill.
Tuesday
- Read-up on Net neutrality, mergers, AT&T, and Michael Cohen: what we know so far, One of net neutrality’s top foes ‘retires’ from AT&T amid Michael Cohen scandal and Net neutrality dies on June 11th.
- Contact Senator Feinstein & Harris and let them know again that you support a Congressional Review Act resolution to restore the 2015 net neutrality rules. Wednesday
- Read-up on Trump invites Gaspar, Abed to White House meeting on immigration.
- Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to co-sponsor H.Res.774 which attempts to bring a a DACA solution for a vote. See Update on DACA and the Dream Act.
Thursday
- Read-up on Duncan Hunter's New Take: Nothing Happened, No Mistake, Nothing and Bill Maher Embarrasses Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter Over John McCain Insults.
- Contact Senator Feinstein & Harris and express your continued concerns about the nomination of Gina Haspel as CIA Director. See Oppose Gina Haspel for CIA Director, Gina Haspel’s Testimony About C.I.A. Torture Raises New Questions and Gina Haspel and the Enduring Questions About Torture.
Friday
- Contact Assemblymember Waldron and ask her to support SB-1346 which would ban bump stocks. The bill passed the State Senate 26-8 and has been referred to the Assembly Public Safety Committee for review. See CA StateStrong Newsletter.
- Contact State Senator Anderson and ask him to support AB-2103 which requires a minimum of 8 hours live training to get a concealed carry permit; current policy only specified between 1-16 hours. The pill passed the State Assembly 57-20 and has been referred to the Senate Public Safety Committee for review. From Moms Demand Action: “Hi, I’m [name] and I’m a constituent from [city]. I'm calling on behalf of Moms Demand Action. I would love to see California join the other 25 states that require live fire training for a concealed carry permit.
