- Contact Supervisor Gaspar and Board of Supervisors and express your concerns about the county’s intention to ask Gavin Newsom to “allow the county total local control over decisions related to COVID-19 and re-opening businesses”. The county should follow California’s directive and plan to reopen California with stricter public health measures specific to San Diego County as necessary to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure that workers do not, for example, unnecessarily risk their safety without protective gears such as facial masks and gloves provided by their employers, including the county.
- Note that in 7 days from May 3rd to May 9th, San Diego County had 999 new positive cases, 127 new hospitalization cases, 31 new intensive care cases and 36 new death cases. We’ve reached another 1,000 positive cases in 7 days which is especially concerning after anti-lockdown gatherings and partial re-opening occuring in the past 3 weeks in Escondido and San Diego County .
- Note that San Diego County currently has 4,926 total positive cases or 143.1 per 100,000 population compared to 315.9 per 100,000 in Los Angeles County (one of highest rates in CA) and 75.2 per 100,000 in Sacramento County (one of the lowest rates in CA). Escondido currently has 138 total positive cases or 90.7 per 100,000 population; Escondido previously had 46 cases (or 32.2 per 100,000) one month ago on April 9th.
