EscInd: Weekly Action Plan for March 9, 2020
Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for March 9, 2020! Census 2020 will begin mid-March! Starting mid-March, households should receive an official Census Bureau invitation to participate, and they can respond via online, mail or phone. The census determines our congressional representation and federal fundings each district receives. A sample questionnaire is available in English and Spanish/Español. Be sure to participate!
- Tuesday, March 10, 2020, 9:00 AM: Board Of Supervisors Regular Meeting at Board Of Supervisors North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 402, San Diego, CA 92101. Agenda includes item #2 to review and continue local health emergency human and local emergency regarding COVID-19. Check videos of previous BoS meetings at sandiegocounty.gov.
- Thursday, March 12, 2020, 2:00 PM: Library Board of Trustees Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. As of Mar. 8th, no agendas have been posted. Check the Library Board of Trustees Agendas for updates and audio recordings of previous LBoT meetings are available at escondido.org here.

2020 Election
- Read-up on Uncalled Races Countywide Tighten as Ballots Continue to Be Counted, Issa's lead over DeMaio grows slightly; he'll likely take on Campa-Najjar in November, North County Report: Measure B Goes Down, and 'I May Have to Give Up California': Voices of the Voters in North County.
- The voter turnout for this 2020 Presidential Primary in San Diego County is on-track to reach 48% based on 663,503 ballots cast and 210,000 outstanding ballots left to be counted as of March 7, 2020. This is 3% less turnout than in 2016 which had 51% turnout and 13% less turnout than in 2008 which had 61% turnout (the highest turnout of the last 20 years for a Presidential Primary).
- In the Congressional 50th District as of March. 7, 2020, Ammar Campa-Najjar (D) will advance to the General Election in November with 35% votes (54,441). 2nd place will be most likely be former 49th Representative Darrell Issa who is 11% (14,517 votes) behind Campa-Najjar (D) and 3.3% (8,202) ahead of former San Diego City Councilmember Carl DeMaio (R). Republican candidates totaled 58% votes while Democratic candidates totaled 41% votes. In the 2018 General Election, former Rep. Hunter (R) won only by a 3% margin (5,867 votes).
- In State Assembly District 75 as of March. 7, 2020, Assemblymember Marie Waldron (R) and Kate Schwartz (D) will advance to the General Election in November with 57.7% (41,196) and 37.4% (26,675) votes respectively. There is a 20% (14,521) difference between the two candidates. In the 2018 General Election, Assemblymember Waldron won only by a 10% margin (12,480 votes).
- In Board of Supervisors District 3 as of March. 7, 2020, BoS Member Kristin Gaspar (R) will advance to the General Election in November with 44% votes (57,869). 2nd place will most likely be Terra Lawson-Remer (D) who is 13% (17,431 votes) behind Gaspar and 6% (8,046) ahead of Escondido City Councilmember Ogla Diaz (D). Democratic candidates totaled 56% votes. In the 2018 General Election, BoS Member Gaspar won only by a 0.6% margin (1,272 votes).
