Agenda includes Item #2 on Youth Development Training, Item #3 on Youth Transition Project, Item #11 on Covid-19 Response Update and Item #12 on San Pasqual Academy. - Tuesday, March 23, 2021, 6:00 PM: Oversight That Affects Us All: San Diego County Citizens’ Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB) Town Hall hosted by the Racial Justice Coalition of San Diego, North County Equity & Justice Coalition and NCSD NAACP among others. CLERB is the Citizens' Independent Oversight Board Committee for San Diego County Law Enforcement. RSVP via Zoom.
San Pasqual Academy
- Read-up on North County Report: 'San Pasqual Allows Them to Be Kids' and Advocates Fight To Keep San Pasqual Academy Open.
- Comment on Item #12 on San Pasqual Academy of the SDC Board of Supervisors Meeting Agenda and support “authorization to request an extension from CDSS to continue operating SPA through June 30, 2022”.
Escondido Police Accountability
- Read-up on The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board: Escondido adopted the right police policy the right way.
- Read-up on Escondido police establish de-escalation policy, Escondido PD Releases New De-Escalation, Crisis Intervention Policy and Escondido police discusses updated de-escalation policies.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and express support for establishment of citizen review boards to investigate complaints against law enforcement officers as recommended by a 2015/2016 Grand Jury Report from San Diego County Civil Grand Jury. The City Council discussed the topic last October, but there have been no updates since then. Escondido Campaign Finance Controls
- Read-up on Escondido council adopts new campaign contribution rules. From last week, New Escondido council erases campaign finance reforms enacted by predecessors and our Twitter thread and blog post about newly elected City Council majority undoing Escondido campaign finance reforms.
- Write a letter to the editor about the newly elected City Council majority undoing Escondido finance campaign reforms. Call on the City Council to pull the proposed Ordinance 2020-27 from being made into law.
Voting Reforms
- Read-up on Voting laws proposed by Republicans in 43 states would limit voter access.
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to support H.R.1/S.1 to strengthen our democracy. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.1, but the House passed the bill with a 220-210 vote. - Contact Assemblymember Waldron and State Senator Jones and ask them to support AB-37 to extend vote by mail to all elections in California.
