EscInd: Weekly Action Plan for March 13, 2017
Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for March 13, 2017! We’ll skip most of the introduction this week and include a recap of last week instead, but send us links and comments at EscondidoIndivisible50@gmail.com and @EscInd50 on Twitter. This past week has been another busy and overwhelming week: Donald Trump has been president for 52 days, and there are 48 days left of his first 100 days. Congress is preparing for the April recess from April 10th to 21st. And:
-
The Trump White House, backed by a Tillerson-led State Department, a Kelly-led DHS and a Sessions-led DOJ, enacted their 2nd test case to ban Muslim people from entering the U.S: Muslim Ban 2.0. In response, Hawaii sued to block the ban, Washington sought to extend the current restraining order to the new ban and more seek to challenge the ban.
-
The Republican-led House introduced their GOPcare bill, or the Affordable Health Care Act (AHCA), which is, in essence, a tax cut bill for the wealthy (in charts), and pushed the bill through 2 house committees without a full legislative process a CBO score.
-
AG Jeff Sessions maintained he did not lie under oath in a submitted, written testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee; however, the ACLU has filed an ethics complaints against Sessions to the Alabama Bar Association. Former NSA Mike Flynn was paid to represent the Turkish government from August to November while he was sitting in U.S. intelligence briefings. Roger Stone, a former Trump political adviser, had a “brief” “innocuous” Twitter exchange with Guccifer 2.0, who claimed to be behind the DNC hacking, after the DNC WikiLeaks occurred.
Locally, we had:
-
Senator Joel Anderson’s Community Coffee event in Escondido on March 9. Senator Anderson was aggressive towards his constituents and also aggressively pushed his anti-immigrant stance, both of which are likely tactics to scare away oppositions. Thankfully, we were able to stand our ground and, hopefully, we can build on efforts to voice our oppositions.
-
Representative Duncan Hunter’s Town Hall in Ramona on March 11. Rep. Hunter set out to praise Trump and of efforts to secure the border, and to declare they’ll revise the tax code and repeal the ACA. Overwhelmingly, he met with a lot of oppositions, and we had a great turn out for our district.

We, the public, deserve transparency and honesty from our president and future president candidates.
