Escondido Election & Campaign Controls
- #TBT: Read-up on Escondido lowers campaign contributions for city offices and Escondido City Council votes to reduce campaign contribution limits in Oct. 2020.
- Comment on item #10 on campaign controls ordinance and oppose reverting campaign reforms that the City voted and implemented in Oct. 2020. Councilmember Inscoe (D2) is proposing the City 1) exclude Political Party Committees from being subjected to the Campaign Control Ordinance, including campaign contribution limits, and 2) remove a control that prohibits rolling over campaign funds from previous years.
- Contact the City Council and oppose item #10 to revert campaign reforms that the City voted and implemented in Oct. 2020.
COVID-19 Response
- Read-up on 500,000 lives lost and U.S. Surpasses 500,000 Deaths From COVID-19.
- Contact Supervisor Lawson-Remer and express concerns about the lifting of regional stay-at-home order. Tell her that you’re concerned about still widespread community spread of COVID-19 & variant strains (we’re at 15 case rate and 30 community outbreaks and still in the purple tier).
- Contact Representative Issa and express disappointment that he does not prioritize or support additional COVID-19 relief for the American people. He voted no on American Rescue Plan though the House passed the bill by 219 - 212. Remember that when he was representative for the 49th district in 2017, he voted to cut taxes for corporations but when helping the American people recover from the impact of a pandemic, he voted no. In fact, he skipped voting in person on that American Rescue Plan to attend CPAC, that is how he viewed the (little) importance of a COVID-19 recovery.
- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass additional COVID-19 relief and $2,000 in direct stimulus payments. See Demand your Representatives build on Biden’s Rescue Plan to pass bold relief & Support the Biden-Harris Coronavirus Rescue Plan.
Voting & Government Reforms
- Read-up on Why Republicans Are Moving To Fix Elections That Weren't Broken.
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to support H.R.1 & S.1 to strengthen our democracy. See Indivisible Democracy Guide, Indivisible Guide on H.R. 1: Strengthening Our Democracy and Support Democracy Reform with H.R. 1/S. 1.
- Contact Assemblymember Waldron and State Senator Jones and ask them to support AB-37 to extend vote by mail to all elections in California.
Prison Incarceration Reforms
- Read-up on Amendment Would Ban 'Servitude' By California Prison Inmates.
- Contact Supervisor Lawson-Remer and ask her to support SDC providing free access to telephone calls. See item #3 of the Board of Supervisors Agenda on request To Provide San Diego County Incarcerated Person Access To Free Telephone Calls And Other Communication Services While Incarcerated In County Detention Facilities.
- Contact Assemblymember Waldron and State Senator Jones and ask them to support ACA-3 to prohibit Involuntary servitude. People deserve fair wages for fighting dangerous wildfires and protecting California from fires for example.
