EscInd: Weekly Action Plan for June 5, 2017

Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for June 5, 2017! Escondido Indivisible is a grassroots group dedicated to affecting changes in our local community. A quick note: we’re still finalizing the details, but we’ll be moving the date and location of our monthly group meetings to: 4th Monday every month at Chalice Unitarian Universalist Congregation Church, 2324 Miller Avenue, Escondido, CA 92029. Socializing starts at 6:00 PM & meeting begins at 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. Our June meeting will still be at North Inland Live Well Center, but moving to Chalice UUC Church starting July. Apologies for all the confusions!

Monday
  • Read-up on Trump Against the Planet: Defending the Climate with Local Action.
  • Contact Mayor Abed & Escondido City Council and ask them to honor the Paris Agreement as San Diego & California have. See A California-led alliance of cities and states vows to keep the Paris climate accord intact & 187 #ClimateMayors adopt, honor and uphold #ParisAgreement goals.
  • Contact Governor Brown and thank him for co-forming the United States Climate Alliance, a coalition of states committed to the Paris Agreement. Let him know that you support the Paris Agreement.
  • Contact Assemblymember Waldron and ask her to vote yes in favor of SB-49, SB-50 and SB-51, which preserve California’s environmental protections. The 3 bills passed the Senate last week and now heading to the Assembly for review.
     
Tuesday
  • Read-up on Residents raising money for anti-Duncan Hunter ad, Billboard Critical of Rep. Hunter Barred at 1 Site, OK'd Nearby, and Opponents of Hunter Ramp Up Efforts with Billboard, Chicken and Bunny Ears.
  • Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to co-sponsor H.Res.85, which expresses commitment of the House to support the Paris Agreement.
  • Contact Senator Feinstein & Harris and ask them to co-sponsor S.Res.155, which expresses support of the Senate to work with international communities on climate change. Thank you them for their support of the Paris Agreement.
     
Wednesday
  • Read-up on White House orders agencies to ignore Democrats’ oversight requests and Trump has filed for an extension of his 2016 tax return.
  • Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to vote no against H.R.10 (Financial CHOICE Act of 2017), which would repeal Dodd-Frank Act protections. The bill is most likely set for a vote on June 7, 2017.   • Contact Senator Feinstein and Harris and let them know that you’re concerned about the ethics waivers that the White House granted to its entire senior-level advisers.   • Read-up on A U.S. citizen says her rights were violated after she was detained by immigration authorities in San Bernardino & Ice agents are out of control. And they are only getting worse.
  • Contact Assemblymember Waldron and ask her to vote yes in favor of SB-54 which limits instances in which state and local resources are used for immigration enforcement without a judicial warrant. See California Values Act (SB 54) and 2017-55: Escondido City Resolution on CA Senate Bill 54.
  • Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to co-sponsor H.R.2759, H.R.2760 and H.R.2761, which assist service members or veterans who are undocumented immigrants and may be (or have been) deported.   • Contact Rep. Hunter and ask him to demand WH senior adviser Jared Kushner’s security clearance be revoked. As a private citizen, Kushner attempted to set-up a one-way, backchannel communication with Russian officials. On his security clearance form, he failed to disclose meetings with Russian officials, and then on his revised security clearance form, he failed to disclose further meetings with Russian officials.   • Contact Senator Feinstein & Harris and ask them to renew calls for AG Sessions’ resignation. He lied under oath and failed to disclose meetings with Russian officials on his security clearance form.
