Live broadcast of the meeting will be at sandiegocounty.gov here Agenda includes item #04 on SDC COVID-19 response updates, item #27 on establishing an office of equity and racial justice, and item #28 on increasing independence and strengthening oversight of the citizens’ law enforcement review board. Agenda includes item #10 on General Municipal Election and Special Election 2020, item #13 on board & commission appointments, item #14 on temporary eviction moratorium extension, item #15 on Mobilehome Rent Ordinance, item #16 on retaining Jeff Epps who will retired in July as interim city manager while the vacancy is filled and item #17 on Climate Action Plan. Election 2020
- Read-up on Kentucky braces for possible voting problems in Tuesday’s primary amid signs of high turnout. Choice Quote: “Fewer than 200 polling places will be open for voters in Kentucky’s primary Tuesday, down from 3,700 in a typical election year. Amid a huge influx in requests for mail-in ballots, some voters still had not received theirs days before they must be turned in.”
- Read-up on Escondido Indivisible’s belated write-up on the Presidential Primary Election 2020.
- Check Your Voter Registration to make sure your voter information is up-to-date or that you haven’t been removed from the registration roll by mistake. Register to Vote if you haven’t already registered to vote and are eligible to vote. All registered voters will receive a mail-in ballot for this election although polls will remain open.
Police Violence

- Read-up on Recent Police Use Of Tear Gas Widespread In US, Including San Diego, North County group calls for Carlsbad police reform in wake of arrest video and County To Vote On Police Reforms, Racial Justice Office.
- Contact Supervisor Gaspar and Board of Supervisors and tell them that you support the “creation of a non-law enforcement "Mobile Crisis Response Team" where clinicians instead of police would respond to nonviolent incidents countywide involving people with behavioral health crises.” Express support also for “increasing independence and strengthening oversight of the citizens’ law enforcement review board”.
Local COVID-19 Response

- Read-up on Latinos Getting COVID-19 At Four Times The Rate Of Whites In San Diego County and Fletcher Spearheads Coronavirus Recovery Task Force Focusing On Equity For People Of Color.
- Contact the Mayor McNamara and the rest of Escondido City Council and tell them that you support extending the temporary eviction moratorium. Express concern about Escondido’s increased COVID-19 positive cases. Escondido currently has 412 total positive cases (up 66 from last week) compared to our neighbors San Marcos with 147, Vista with 202 and Poway with 65. 20 days ago on June 1st, we had 254 cases which means that we have 197 new cases since then. Ask for more community health communications and education about COVID-19.
- Note that in 7 days from June 14th to June 20th, San Diego County had 1,354 new positive cases, 100 new hospitalization cases, 23 new intensive care cases and 19 new death cases. See LA Times’ San Diego County coronavirus cases and California coronavirus cases.
Federal COVID-19 Response

- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Harris and express support for additional COVID-19 relief proposed by the HEROES Act. Note that the HEROES Act has passed the House. See Indivisible's HEROES Act Summary.
- In-related news: read-up on As Meat Plants Stayed Open to Feed Americans, Exports to China Surged. Choice Quote: “After slaughterhouses in several states were closed when thousands of workers tested positive and dozens died, the industry publicly lobbied the Trump administration to intervene with state and local officials or risk major meat shortages across American grocery stores [...] But the meatpackers [...] did not emphasize, at least not publicly, that keeping the plants open would also protect their long-term investments in exporting to a country that is vital to their growth [...] As some meat companies continue to test their workers, they are still discovering positive cases.
