Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for July 19, 2021! California Gubernatorial Recall Election will be on September 14, 2021 (52 days from now). Check your voter registration or register to vote. Mail ballots will be mailed after all to all registered voters starting August 16th. If you’d like to be involved, San Diego County is looking for paid Site Managers for In-Person Voting Locations.
Events
- Wednesday, July 21, 2021, 5:00 PM: Escondido City Council Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda includes Item #15 on Green Infrastructure Plan and #16 on Sign Regulation. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at escondido.org here. Public comments may be made via Public Comment Form.
- Thursday, July 22, 2021, 2:00 PM PDT: As American as Apple Pie... and Rice and Beans: a Rally at Representative Issa’s San Marcos’ Office, 570 Rancheros Dr, San Marcos, CA 92069-2911 to demand a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants, and deliver a plate of apple pie, and rice, and beans.
Voting Rights
- Read-up on The fight for voting rights intensifies as the nation marks one year since John Lewis died and listen to The Most Sacred Right (1 hour).
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass legislation to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965 such as H.R.1/S.1. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.1. See Deadline For Democracy.
- Contact State Senator Jones and ask him to support AB-37 to extend vote by mail to all elections in California. AB-37 passed the Assembly 59 to 16. Assemblymember Waldron voted no against extending vote by mail and making voting more accessible.
Police Accountability
- Read-up on Investigators said San Diego deputy neglected to check inmate found dead in 2020.
- Contact Assemblymember Waldron and ask her to vote yes on SB-2 to create a decertification process for peace officers. SB-2 passed the Senate 26-9. Senator Jones voted no to holding police accountable for misconduct or criminal conviction four times during the three hearings and on the Senate floor. COVID-19 & Economic Inequality
- Read-up on Fresno CA undocumented renters struggle in COVID pandemic and Hundreds Of San Diego County Landlords Still Aren't Participating In Rent Relief Efforts.
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation such as S. 53/H.R. 603 to raise the federal minimum wage to $15. Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla are co-sponsors of S.53. See Raise the Federal Minimum Wage to $15.

(including Assemblymember Waldron of 75th District and State Senator Jones of 38th District) and What We Learned This Week. Choice quote: “Last August, after Republican state Sen. Brian Jones, who lives in Santee, contracted COVID-19 [...] Jones’ positive test eventually led to the Legislature being forced to operate virtually in its final days [... And now] Jones, won’t say whether they’ve been vaccinated. In a twist that should shock no one, there’s another COVID-19 outbreak happening inside the California Capitol.”
