Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for July 11, 2022! The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022 and will include 7 ballot measures along with Escondido Municipal Election for Mayor, City Council Seat #1 and #2. Check your voting registration and register to vote if you’re eligible and not registered.
 
Events
  • Wednesday, July 13, 2022, 5:00 PM:  Escondido City Council Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda includes Item #5 on Revenue Measure Survey Results. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at escondido.org here. Public comments may be made via Public Comment Form.
  • Thursday, July 14, 2022, 1:00 PM: Escondido Library Board of Trustees Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda includes Item #2 on Library Marketing and Item #5 on Economic Development. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at escondido.org here.  Public comments may be made via Public Comment Form. Abortion Rights
  • Read-up on Fear of prosecution forces doctors to protect themselves or patients.
  • Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation supporting abortion access such as H.R.3755. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.3755 (and praised the overturn of Roe vs. Wade) but H.R.3755 passed the House and was blocked in the Senate. See Codify Abortion Rights.
Judiciary Reforms
  • Read-up on ‘Operation Higher Court’: Inside the religious right’s efforts to wine and dine Supreme Court justices and Supreme Court Justices 'Prayed With' Anti-Roe Activist Before Ruling.
  • Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass H.R. 2584 & S. 1141 to expand the Supreme Court. See Demand the Senate Pass the Markey Court Expansion Bill to Save Abortion Rights.
Election & Voting Rights
  • Read-up on Wisconsin Supreme Court Prohibits the Use of Most Drop Boxes for Voting.
  • Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass legislation to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965 such as the amended H.R.5314, H.R.4/S.4, H.R.1/S.1 and S.2747. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.5314, H.R.1 & H.R.4 which passed the House but was blocked in the Senate. See Support Democracy Reform with Voting Rights Protections.
