- Thursday, July 13, 2023, 6:00 PM: Escondido Library Board of Trustees Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda includes Item #2 on New Library Subcommittee for a new library and Item #4 on Library Outreach Committee to promote library resources, Item #5 on Strategic Plan Objective 3 to Support the Escondido Economy. Judiciary Reforms
- Read-up on Alito Took Unreported Luxury Trip With GOP Donor Paul Singer and Behind the Scenes of Justice Alito’s Unprecedented Wall Street Journal Pre-buttal.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to adopt a code of conduct for the Supreme Court such as S.325/H.R.927. See Senate Democrats push for Supreme Court ethics code for justices and Outside groups take a first stab at a Supreme Court ethics code.
LGBTQ+ Rights
- Read-up on 'Stewart' cited in SCOTUS gay rights case says he never requested a website.
- Read-up on Protesters ruin Rancho Peñasquitos library's Pride exhibit by checking out nearly all the books and Q&A: The response to an anti-LGBTQ+ protest at a San Diego library.
- Contact Assemblymember Waldron and State Senator Jones and ask them to support ACA-5 to “rescind Proposition 8” and “enshrine marriage equality in the state constitution” through a ballot measure.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass the Equality Act to “amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation and gender identity”. Reproductive Rights
- Read-up on Abortion access could continue to change in year 2 after the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to “codify access to contraception into federal law” and abortion rights. Note that Representative Issa had previously praised the overturn of Roe vs. Wade and voted against codifying abortion rights.
