- Tuesday, January 29, 2019, 9:00 AM: Board Of Supervisors Regular Meeting at North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101. ***Agenda includes authorizing a temporary shelter to house asylum-seeking families (item #12).***
Immigration
- Read-up on Board of Supervisors’ item #12 meeting agenda on authorizing a temporary shelter to house asylum-seeking families and letter from Supervisors Cox and Fletcher about the temporary shelter.
- Contact Supervisor Gaspar and ask her vote yes to “temporarily use a
- County property [which was scheduled for demolition] to shelter [...] legal asylum seeking families on a time-limited basis.” There will be no cost to the county since the Jewish Family Service of San Diego “will incur or reimburse all start up and ongoing costs associated with use of this property during the short time period up to December 31, 2019.”
- Attend the Board Of Supervisors Regular Meeting on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, 9:00 AM at North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101. Join San Diego Rapid Response Network at 10:00 AM to urge the BoS to vote yes on a temporary shelter to house asylum-seeking families to these families.

Federal Government Shutdown

- Contact Rep. Hunter and voice concerns about federal contractors who are not guarantee back pay from the partial government shutdown and about another potential government shutdown in February. Ask him to support legislation that will provide back pay to low-wage contractor employees and “a conference agreement that has no new funding for the wall”. Note that Rep. Hunter vote no on all proposed bipartisan resolutions to fund the government this year. - Contact Senators Feinstein and Harris and ask them to push for the passing of S.162 which will “provide back pay to low-wage contractor employees”. Thank them for their work to reopen the government and ask them to continue “support a conference agreement that has no new funding for the wall”. (Note: both Senators Feinstein and Harris are co-sponsors of S.162.)

Escondido is seeking passionate, committed residents to serve on various Boards and Commissions. We especially need people to apply for the Library Board of Trustees, Planning Commission, and Transportation Safety. Even if it doesn’t seem like there is an opening, please apply any way. Vacancies open often. This is a great way to serve our community. Please apply!
