Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for January 22, 2024! Happy New Year! The Presidential Primary Election will be on March 5, 2024 (~44 days away), and registered voters in San Diego County will receive a ballot in the mail starting the week of February 4, 2024. Register to vote if you’re eligible to vote, check your voter registration and make sure your ballot has the option you want.
Events
- Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 10:00 AM: San Diego County Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting at Board Of Supervisors North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 402, San Diego, CA 92101. Agenda includes Item #11 on Remove Barriers to Health for People Experiencing Homelessness by Creating a Regionwide Street Health Initiative and Item #12 on Infrastructure and Workforce Investments to Combat the Childcare Crisis. Election 2024
- Read-up on Escondido school board fills vacant seat, North County Report: A Big Year Ahead, [County] Sales tax measure to fund transportation infrastructure qualifies for November 2024 ballot and Escondido citizens pushing to place 1-cent sales tax hike on the ballot.
- Register to vote if you’re eligible to vote, check your voter registration and make sure your ballot has the option you want. Mail ballot for the March 5th Presidential Primary Election will start going out starting the week of February 4, 2024.

Voting Rights

- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass legislation to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Judiciary Reforms

- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Butler and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to enforce a code of conduct for the Supreme Court (see previous proposed S.325/H.R.927) and expand SCOTUS such as S.1616/H.R.3422. Reproductive Rights
- Read-up on Supreme Court allows Idaho abortion ban to be enacted, first such ruling since Dobbs, 'Jane Roe' no more. Abortion bans are a very public fight in 2023 and The Impact Of Restrictive Abortion Laws In 2023.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Butler and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to codify abortion, contraception and reproductive rights into federal laws such as H.R.782, H.R.3420 and H.R.4303. Note that Representative Issa had previously praised the overturn of Roe vs. Wade and voted against codifying abortion rights. Homelessness
- Read-up on North County Cities Are Ramping Up Homeless Solutions for Their Own Residents and Vista’s First Low-Barrier Shelter Could Open Soon.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and ask them to do more to address the immediate needs of our community, such as, creating a Safe Parking Program similar to Encinitas and Vista and a Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement similar to La Mesa.
