EscInd: Weekly Action Plan for January 18, 2021

Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for January 18, 2021! Pick an action or two and commit yourself to doing them. As President Obama said in his farewell speech: Believe in your ability to bring change. Show up, dive in, stay at it. Stay safe and healthy!

Actions | Contact Info for Elected Officials | Tips for Communicating with Public Officials
Trump Attempted Coup
  • Read-up on Rep. Issa: Democrats 'overplaying' Trump's role in Capitol riot, associated deaths and Opinion: Darrell Issa Cannot Call for Unity Without Facing Accountability.
  • Read-up on 41 minutes of fear: A video timeline from inside the Capitol siege, Insurrection at the Capitol: A Timeline of How It Happened, Among the Insurrectionists at the Capitol, The American Abyss, Six hours of paralysis: Inside Trump's failure to act after a mob stormed the Capitol, ‘Trump said to do so’: Accounts of rioters who say the president spurred them to rush the Capitol could be pivotal testimony.
  • Contact Representative Issa and ask for his resignation. Rep. Issa failed to defend the constitution and our country against a domestic thread. Instead, he chose in his first acts as our representative to defend a president who incited a violent attempted coup attempting to stop the peaceful transfer of presidential power and to assassinate our congressional leaders. Rep. Issa needs to resign. He needs to be censured. He needs to be expelled from Congress. See Demand Consequences for Complicit Lawmakers.
  • Contact Senator Feinstein and urge her to impeach and remove President Trump from Office. President Trump needs to be held accountable for inciting a violent attempted coup at the Capitol and be disqualified from running for reelection. See Demand Your Senator Return to Congress to Support the Conviction and Permanent Disqualification of Donald Trump and Impeach and Remove Donald Trump.

  • Contact Supervisor Lawson-Remer and thank her for voting to increase compliance and enforcement of COVID-19 public health order. Tell her that you’re still concerned about increased community spread of COVID-19 (we’re up at 69.7 case rate, 49 community outbreaks, and ICU capacity down at 12%).
Voting & Governmental Reforms
  • Read-up Indivisible Democracy Guide.
  • Contact Representative Issa and Senator Feinstein and ask them to support H.R. 1 to strengthen our democracy. See Indivisible Guide on H.R. 1: Strengthening Our Democracy.
