Voting Rights & Democracy
- Read-up on What Democrats put in their voting rights megabill — and what got left out.
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass legislation such as the amended H.R.5314, H.R.4/S.4, H.R.1/S.1 and S.2747 to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.5314 (and on H.R.1 & H.R.4 which passed the House but was blocked in the Senate by the filibuster). See Support Democracy Reform with Voting Rights Protections and Demand your Senator Fix the Filibuster to Pass Democracy Reform.
COVID-19 & Recovery
- Read-up on Labor unions, essential workers call on state to bring back COVID-19 paid sick leave.
- Contact Assemblymember Waldron and ask for legislation to provide 2 weeks of COVID-19 paid sick leave and pause evictions due to rising COVID-19 cases.
- Contact Supervisor Lawson-Remer and express concerns about the rising COVID-19 positive cases and hospitalizations. Ask for more public health measures and resources to contain COVID-19 and help residents prevent or deal with COVID-19 infection, e.g. more accessible free N95/K95 masks, more county walk-in testing locations, more county walk-in vaccine locations, etc. 7 of 13 COVID-19 surveillance triggers are in red/failing including for 16.7% increased hospitalizations and 39 community outbreaks.
- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass an inclusive recovery package under H.R.5376. Note that Representative Issa voted No on expanding child tax credits and universal preschool for children ages 3 and 4 among other “safety-net” expansions. See Indivisible's The Build Back Better Act, Explained and Winning an Inclusive Recovery in the Senate.
