- Tuesday, February 7, 2023, 9:00 AM: San Diego County Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting at Board Of Supervisors North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 402, San Diego, CA 92101. - Thursday, February 9, 2023, 2:00 PM: Escondido Library Board of Trustees Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. No agenda posted as of Feb. 5th. Police Brutality
- Read-up on Protest rally held in Escondido for Tyre Nichols, Keenan Anderson, Protesters in Escondido speak out against police brutality after deaths of Tyre Nichols, Keenan Anderson, Local organizers decry brutal police beating death of Tyre Nichols and Protesters rally against police brutality in Escondido.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and express support for the establishment of citizen review boards to investigate complaints against law enforcement officers as recommended by a 2015/2016 Grand Jury Report from San Diego County Civil Grand Jury. The City Council discussed the topic in 2020, but there have been no updates since then. - Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to strengthen legislation to hold police accountable such as ending qualified immunity and limiting pretext stops and uses of force. See Demand Comprehensive Police Reform, The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021, explained and The BREATHE Act is a bold plan to address police violence — and it’s made for this moment.
Gun Violence
- Read-up on California seeks new gun restrictions following shootings.
- Contact Assemblymember Maienschein and State Senator Jones and ask them to pass legislation to protect us from gun violence such as SB-2 to ban people from carrying concealed guns into public spaces and “anyone younger than 21 from having a permit to carry their gun concealed and would require all permit holders to have more training, including on how to safely store and transport guns”.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass more comprehensive legislation addressing gun violence such as S.25 which will ban assault weapons and S.14 which will raise the age to be able to buy a gun from 18 to 21. Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla are co-sponsors of S.25 & S.14. Note that Representative Issa previously voted no on the Gun Safety Bill (S.2938) along with other gun safety legislation.
