Events
- Wednesday, February 3, 2021, 6:00 PM: Escondido City Council Meeting via teleconference. Agenda includes item #5 on public comments during council meetings and #7 on Organics Recycling Program Workshop. FYI, the city council voted 3-2 to approve Palomar Heights, and on Agenda for the Feb. 10th meeting is Climate Action Plan Update Workshop. Local COVID-19 Response
- Read-up on San Diego COVID-19 Vaccination Super Station To Open In North County Sunday, New coronavirus strain may be behind California's surge, As California Virus Cases Fall, More People Than Ever Dying, and San Diego's COVID-19 Hospitalizations Continue To Go Down. Choice quote: “Hospitalizations related to COVID-19 continue to decline in the county, even as 1,489 new infections and 69 deaths from the illness were reported by county public health officials today” and “Hospitalizations due to the virus continue to decline, to 1,408 from Wednesday's 1,465, but patients in intensive care beds remain unchanged at 408. There are 44 staffed ICU beds available in the county.” Hospital capacity in San Diego is at 21% and ICU capacity is at 14% as of Jan. 30th so hospitalization and ICU rates remain high.
- Read-up on AP Analysis: Racial disparity seen in US vaccination drive. Note from quick review of San Diego data: positive COVID-19 rate among Hispanic or Latino people is 56.3% while the vaccination rate is only 13.6%.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and express concerns about the spread of COVID-19 in Escondido (we’re at 143.6 case rate and 10,747 total cases as of Jan. 2nd). Express concerns about businesses who are not complying with public health orders. Ask for more public health education and awareness of COVID-19 risks.
- Contact Supervisor Lawson-Remer and express concerns about the lifting of regional stay-at-home order. Tell her that you’re concerned about still widespread community spread of COVID-19 & variant strains (we’re up at 49.6 case rate, 57 community outbreaks, and ICU capacity down at 14%).
Federal COVID-19 Response
- Read-up on Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion Covid-19 economic stimulus plan, explained and Biden’s national Covid-19 plan and executive actions, explained.

Voting & Government Reforms
- Read-up State GOPs have already introduced dozens of bills restricting voting access in 2021, Brennan Center for Justice’s Voting Laws Roundup 2021 and #TBT Commentary: You might not think voter suppression can happen in California. It can.

Trump Attempted Coup
- Read-up on Is Trump's Senate Trial Constitutional? There Is Precedent, From 145 Years Ago and FBI finds evidence of coordination at Capitol riot.
- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to convict and permanently disqualify President Trump from Office. President Trump needs to be held accountable for inciting a violent attempted coup at the Capitol and be disqualified from running for reelection. - In related news: read-up on Escondido post commander to face 'trial' over ties to Proud Boys. Choice quote: “Escondido American Legion Post Commander Michael Sobczak will soon face a trial [in April-May] to decide his future at the post after social media posts surfaced showing his affiliations to the Proud Boys [...] Though Sobczak has been asked to resign by members of the post, he refuses to do so.”
