Escondido City Council
- Read-up on Dane White's victory in Escondido mayor's race complete. Measure E, the three-quarter-cent local sales tax increase measure, fails.
- Attend (or watch live) Escondido City Council Installation Ceremony and Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025 on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, 5:00 PM. The City Council will consider whether to “conduct an application/interview process and appoint a new District 3 City Councilmember or call for a special election” as Item #6 of the meeting agenda.
- In-Related News: read-up on Mail-in ballots constitute 90% of San Diego County's certified election results (Voter turnout for the county was 54.2%, and Escondido was approximately 50%).
Homelessness
- Read-up on More street medicine teams tackle the homeless health care crisis. Note that San Diego County recently launched a Mobile Crisis Response Team but it’s unknown how much Escondido is employing its service.
- Contact the Escondido City Council and ask them to address the immediate needs of the community, such as, creating a Safe Parking Program similar to Encinitas and a Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement similar to La Mesa. See Fletcher Says City Budgets Need to Prioritize Homelessness.
Labor Rights
- Read-up on Wage theft portraits: Californians making their claims (see also Unpaid Wages: A Waiting Game).
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to mandate seven days paid sick leave for all workers. Note that Rep. Issa voted no to 7-days paid sick leave for railroad workers. See Rail Strike: Why The Railroads Won’t Give In on Paid Leave and Railroad workers aren't the only Americans without paid sick leave.
