Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for August 29, 2022! The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Check your voter registration and register to vote if you’re eligible to vote. Pick an action or two and commit yourself to doing them. As President Obama said in his farewell speech: Believe in your ability to bring change. Show up, dive in, stay at it.
Events
- Tuesday, August 30, 2022, 9:00 AM: San Diego County Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting at Board Of Supervisors North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 402, San Diego, CA 92101. Union Rights
- Read-up on California Farmworkers March 335 Miles for Labor Rights and Farmworkers march 335 miles to Sacramento to urge Newsom to sign bill to help them unionize
- Contact State Senator Jones and ask him to vote yes on AB2183 to allow farmworkers to vote by mail in union elections. Senator Jones previously voted no in a committee vote, and Assemblymember Waldron had already voted no in an assembly vote.
Gun Violence
- Read-up on Uvalde residents push for more accountability after Pete Arredondo firing and Uvalde parents rally in Austin to raise age for AR-15-style rifle purchases.
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass more comprehensive legislation addressing gun violence like “a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, raising the age to be able to buy a gun from 18 to 21, universal background checks”. Note that Representative Issa voted no on the Gun Safety Bill (S.2938) along with other gun safety legislation like H.R.8, H.R.1446, H.R.7910, & H.R.2377. Voting Plan
- Check your voter registration and register to vote if you’re eligible to vote.
- Plan to vote. The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Mail ballots will be mailed to all voters starting October 8th and early in-person voting will start on October 10th.
- Explore San Diego Registrar Election Information and Escondido Election 2022 (scroll down to “Candidate Information by District” and “Ballot Measures” section).
- Note that the Escondido Municipal Election will include the following candidates (so far): Paul "Mac" McNamara and Dane White for Mayor, Consuelo Martinez and Mike Johnson-Palomares for City Council District 1, and Joe Garcia and Jeff Griffith for City Council District 2 (both districts recently re-districted). City ballot measures include: ¾ cent sales tax, term limits & treasure compensation.
- And at the state-level, there will be 7 state ballot measures including Proposition 1 to codify a right to an abortion and contraceptives.
