Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for August 22, 2022! The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Check your voter registration and register to vote if you’re eligible to vote.
Events
- Wednesday, August 24, 2022, 5:00 PM: Escondido City Council Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda includes Item #10 on Transportation Safety Update. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at escondido.org here. Public comments may be made via Public Comment Form.
Voting Plan
- Check your voter registration and register to vote if you’re eligible to vote.
- Plan to vote. The General Election will be Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Mail ballots will be mailed to all voters starting October 8th and early in-person voting will start on October 10th.
- Explore San Diego Registrar Election Information and Escondido Election 2022 (scroll down to “Candidate Information by District” and “Ballot Measures” section).
- Note that the Escondido Municipal Election will include the following candidates (so far): Paul "Mac" McNamara and Dane White for Mayor, Consuelo Martinez and Mike Johnson-Palomares for City Council District 1, and Joe Garcia and Jeff Griffith for City Council District 2 (both districts recently re-districted). City ballot measures include: ¾ cent sales tax, term limits & treasure compensation.
- And at the state-level, there will be 7 state ballot measures including Proposition 1 to codify a right to an abortion and contraceptives.
Immigration
- Read-up on The Secret History of Family Separation and Family separations at the border continue under Biden.
- Read-up on Still awaiting citizenship, frustrated 'Dreamers' push forward (on 10 years anniversary of DACA).
- Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass “Comprehensive Inclusive Immigration Reform” such as H.R.6, which provides “permanent legal protections and a pathway to citizenship for DACA and TPS recipients”, H.R.1603, which provides protections for migrant farmworkers, and H.R.1177, which also provides a pathway to citizenship for DACA and TPS recipients along with migrant farmworkers. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.6 & H.R.1603 which passed the House and now in the Senate for consideration. See Demand Congress Enact Comprehensive Immigration Reform, DACA turns 10! Now, we need Permanent Protections for ALL, Protect DACA and TPS Recipients with the Dream and Promise Act, and Major Immigration Reform for Agriculture Garners Bipartisan Support.
Reproductive Rights
- Read-up on Despite donations, abortion funds still struggle to survive.
- Contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation such as H.R.8373 to “codify access to contraception into federal law”. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.8373 (and had previously praised the overturn of Roe vs. Wade and also voted against codifying abortion rights) but H.R.8373 passed the House.
