EscInd: Weekly Action Plan for August 16, 2021

Welcome to Escondido Indivisible’s weekly action plan for August 16, 2021! California Gubernatorial Recall Election will be on September 14, 2021. Check your voter registration or register to vote. Mail ballots will be mailed to all registered voters starting this Monday, August 16th, and you can check the status of your ballot via check your voter registration. Stay safe and healthy!
Events
  • Tuesday, August 17, 2021, 9:00 AM: San Diego County Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting at Board Of Supervisors North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 402, San Diego, CA 92101.  Agenda includes Item #1 on Immigrant Legal Representation Fund and Item #7 on COVID-19 Response Update. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at sandiegocounty.gov here. Public comments may be made via eComment service or via email to publiccomment@sdcounty.ca.gov. See Voice Your Opinion.

Voting Rights
  • Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and urge them to pass legislation to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965 such as H.R.1/S.1. Note that Representative Issa voted no on H.R.1 which passed the House but was blocked in the Senate by the filibuster.   • Contact State Senator Jones and ask him to support AB-37 to extend vote by mail to all elections in California.  AB-37 passed the Assembly 59 to 16. Assemblymember Waldron voted no against extending vote by mail and making voting more accessible.
Redistricting

COVID-19 & Economic Inequality
  • Read-up on California hospitals filling as COVID Delta variant rages, Delta Has Changed the Pandemic Endgame and Round one of child tax credit payments slashed hunger rates, U.S. data shows.
  • Contact Representative Issa, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to federally pause eviction given the ongoing economic recovery, pandemic and resurgence of COVID-19 cases and legislation such as S. 53/H.R. 603 to raise the federal minimum wage to $15. Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla are co-sponsors of S.53. See Raise the Federal Minimum Wage to $15.
