Escondido Budget
- Attend Escondido Discussion Budget Workshop (on the City Budget Priority) at City Hall, Mitchell Room, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025 on Saturday, April 15, 2023, 8:00 AM.
- Complete The Escondido Discussion Online Survey (5 to 15 minutes) on “local community priorities and City service needs” and call for more funding to community-based programs and services. For example, creating a Safe Parking Program similar to Encinitas and Vista and a Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement similar to La Mesa to address immediate needs of our community.
Reproductive Rights
- Read-up on Abortion pill access in jeopardy after judges issue conflicting rulings and How to understand competing medication abortion rulings.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to “codify access to contraception into federal law” and abortion rights. Note that Representative Issa had previously praised the overturn of Roe vs. Wade and voted against codifying abortion rights. Judiciary Reforms

- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to push the Supreme Court to adopt a code of conduct. See Senate Democrats push for Supreme Court ethics code for justices and Outside groups take a first stab at a Supreme Court ethics code.

Gun Control
- Read-up on San Diego judge 2nd to block key parts of Calif. handgun law and Gun deaths among U.S. kids rose 50% from 2019 to 2021.
- Contact Assemblymember Maienschein and State Senator Jones and ask them to pass legislation to protect us from gun violence such as SB-2 to ban people from carrying concealed guns into public spaces and “anyone younger than 21 from having a permit to carry their gun concealed and would require all permit holders to have more training, including on how to safely store and transport guns”.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass more comprehensive legislation addressing gun violence such as S.25 which will ban assault weapons and S.14 which will raise the age to be able to buy a gun from 18 to 21. Senator Feinstein and Senator Padilla are co-sponsors of S.25 & S.14. Note that Representative Issa previously voted no on the Gun Safety Bill (S.2938) along with other gun safety legislation.
