Events
- Wednesday, August 28, 2024, 10:00 AM: San Diego County Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting at Board Of Supervisors North Chamber Room 310, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 402, San Diego, CA 92101. Agenda includes Item #11 on a housing inclusionary policy. Live broadcast of the meeting will be at sandiegocounty.gov here. - Wednesday, August 28, 2024, 5:00 PM: Escondido City Council Meeting at City Hall Council Chambers, 201 North Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. Agenda includes a Proposition 36 Presentation and Item #14 to cancel the election for treasurer due to it being unopposed. Actions
Election 2024
- Not-so-Brief: Check out our website posts on the 2024 Election and How To Vote. The former include election dates and info about the upcoming municipal election now that they were published by San Diego Registrar of Voters and Escondido City Clerk. For Escondido, Councilmember Christian Garcia, Christine Spencer and Veronica Cigarroa are running for District 3, and Judy Fitzgerald & Rod Howell for District 4. We will also decide on Measure I to raise the sales tax by one cent for the next 20 years.
- Register to vote if you’re eligible, check your voter registration, sign-up to track your mail ballot and plan to vote. The Presidential Election will be on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and mail ballots will be mailed starting the week of October 6 to all registered voters in San Diego County.
- Read-up on Inside Trump’s Plan to Rig 2024: ‘Georgia Is Our Laboratory’, Georgia county election boards could refuse to certify results under new rule and Trump commitment to democracy questioned after saying supporters ‘won’t have to vote’ again.
Reproductive Rights
- Read-up on Dozens of pregnant women being turned away from ERs despite law and Missouri Funds Anti-Abortion Group That Works in Other States.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Butler and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to codify abortion, contraception and reproductive rights into federal laws such as H.R.782, H.R.3420 and H.R.4303. Note that Representative Issa had previously praised the overturn of Roe vs. Wade and voted against codifying abortion rights. Judiciary Reforms
- Read-up on The inside story of John Roberts and Trump’s immunity win at the Supreme Court, Joe Biden: My plan to reform the Supreme Court and ensure no president is above the law and Biden calls for term limits, ethics rules for Supreme Court justices.
- Contact Representative Issa, Representative Peters, Senator Butler and Senator Padilla and ask them to pass legislation to enforce a code of conduct for the Supreme Court (see previous proposed S.325/H.R.927) and expand SCOTUS such as S.1616/H.R.3422.
