Thirty Pieces of Silver
Thirty Pieces of Silver
The subject of Bible Prophecy enamors all of us. And when I say “all of us,” I mean ALL OF US, believers and non-believers alike. Unlike the writings of folks like Nostrodamus and prophecies of folks like William Miller, the true prophecies are not hit and miss, nor correctable.
Truth is, at times, harder to believe than fiction. But the truths of the Bible stand and defend themselves in their completion.
Bible Prophecy, or should I say the undeniable words of the prophets of God, are what brought me to Faith in Jesus Christ. If you do not know Jesus as yet, I hope this writing will help you in your quest for truth, Romans 10:9-10.
When talking Bible prophecies, we have to keep in mind that not all have been completed as yet. We need only look at the last half of the last book, Revelation, to see this is true. But there are more than enough that have fulfilled and this should lead the objective mind to a position that God, and His Book, can be trusted. The following is one of those prophecies. This one is by Zechariah.
Make your own decision as to its truth and value.
Zechariah was a prophet of Israel. He began his ministry in about 520 BC during the reign of Darius, the Persian. This would be about 550 years before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. His writings contain many predictions. Those that have been completed are exact. Many concern the future and are yet to be completed. Of note for this moment is a prediction concerning Jesus Christ and Judas.
Take special interest, if you will, in the fact that those who completed this particular prophecy, were the same ones that were trying to disprove that Jesus Christ was God and Savior.
Zechariah 11:12-13
(12) And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. (13) And the Lord said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord.

Matthew 26:14-15
(14) Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, (15) And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
Matthew 27:3-7
(3) Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, (4) Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. (5) And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. (6) And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. (7) And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
Zechariah 11:13b
And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord.
Do you believe God? Then now is the time to act and receive forgiveness, John 3:16.
A Sinner’s Prayer of Salvation: God forgive me, I am a sinner. Jesus come into my life and heart and save me. Amen.
If you have prayed these words, or words similar, from your heart, God heard and you are saved for evermore.
