Did You Know?

The idea of cooking with tea is hardly new, but in the 10 years since my first blog post about it, it's become more popular than ever. From sweet treats like matcha desserts or the Earl Grey cookies baked up by Column 15 (with Discover Teas' triple bergamot Earl Grey) to savory delicacies like tea-smoked duck from Peter Chang Williamsburg or dishes in between like my Cran-Brie en Croute, it's not hard to find tea-made treats in local cafes and restaurants, or online recipe resources. Even food science and recipe blog Serious Eats has a list of ideas on how to cook with tea.

Check out my blog posts on ways to cook with tea and the science of how cooking with tea makes a difference in the kitchen for more information and ideas!

    October Action Hours:
    Friday, October 3rd, 7:00pm Eastern!
    Wednesday, October 22nd, 3:30pm Eastern!

Due to the unfortunate last-minute cancellation of last month's Action Hour, I'm hosting 2 Action Hours this month! I apologize for not being able to make it happen last week and I hope to see those who wanted to be there at one or both of this month's options.

Not sure what an Action Hour is? Check out my blog post on the completely optional "Take a Stand, Make a Plan" incentive program to encourage protecting human rights and building stronger communities. By participating by either donating to an organization or joining an Action Hour, you can receive a $25 Discover Teas gift card code to use or to gift.

You're always welcome to join Action Hour, even if you don't have any specific plans for that time. It's a great space to brainstorm ideas, share resources, think about different groups we can reach out to, and come up with helpful scripts or schedules that can lessen the cognitive and emotional load of these tasks. It can also be an opportunity to discuss strategies for managing the deluge of dire news in a productive fashion while still staying informed and compassionate, ways to help keep each other safe, and how to identify or recover from burnout, so we can feel strengthened and less alone.

  • This month's Take a Stand, Make a Plan Action Hours are Friday, 10/03/25, at 7:00pm Eastern and Wednesday, 10/22/25, at 3:30pm Eastern. I know everyone's schedule is different, so I intend to offer different hours on different days each month so people in different timezones or who have different schedules can also participate.
  • Click this link to join the October Action Hours on 10/03/25 at 7:00pm Eastern/4:00pm Pacific and/or 10/22/25 at 3:30pm Eastern/12:30pm Pacific. Please do NOT share this link with people who are not subscribed to the newsletter, although you are welcome to invite people to subscribe to get access for future sessions.
  • These meetings take place over Jitsi Meet, a video conferencing platform that is free to use, works on desktop and mobile browsers without the need for an app (although one is available), does not require a login for attendees, and does not collect or sell your data. You do not need to use your full name, camera, or microphone in these meetings if you do not wish to.
  • "When isolation, trauma and despair are weaponized; building community, helping people heal, and bringing hope are acts of resistance."—A. Marshall
