Suddenly It's March
How is it already March? I sat down to work on a deadline, looked up, and suddenly we're three months into 2024. Hopefully I'll be able to announce that project soon, but in the meantime, here's what I've been up to!
Two of the projects I mentioned in my last newsletter have been announced: Vox Machina Origins and Venture to the Vile!
Vox Machina are back! Dark Horse Comics announced volume 4 of Vox Machina Origins, and look at that gorgeous cover by Alicia Sanchez! This volume will also have a new artist (to the series), Noah Hayes, and I can't wait for everyone to see what we've been working on. More info here! The first issue is coming out May 29th.
I colored some of the one-shots in this comic project based on a video game. I got to work on pages by Karl Kerschl, Andy Belanger, and John P. Golden! You can preview some of them here.
Help me get my first one-shot comic published! I submitted a pitch to the Wish Upon A Star anthology and it was accepted! AH! If all goes well, the amazing Pablo M. Collar will be illustrating it, and I'll be coloring it as well, of course. The Kickstarter campaign is live now, and I'd really appreciate it if you checked it out!
The fantastic Deven Rue - known for illustrating maps for Critical Role, Magic the Gathering, Wizards of the Coast, and more - invited me to have a chat on her podcast Quip & Quill!
We talked about working as freelancers, about the gaming and comics industry, about Critical Role, and many other things! I had such a fun, good time chatting with Deven, who's wonderful, so check it out as well if this sounds like your sort of thing.
(If you can't see it under "Recent Episodes", try one of the other links there)
The British Fantasy Society invited me to speak about all the work I've done for books - maps, character cards, bookmarks, and more - along with some very talented creators. The panel is on April 13th. More info here!
The Ringo Awards nominations are open! My work is eligible for a few categories, if you feel like casting a vote!
Best Colorist
Best Kids Comic or Graphic Novel: Mall Goth
The Hunger and the Dusk, which I worked on as a colorist along with Msassyk, can also be nominated for several categories, including Favourite New Series!
I asked my followers on social media to send me some questions for this newsletter, but since it has unexpectedly gotten quite long, those will be in the next one!
And to close things out, a few things I've been enjoying lately: I finally bought my first Lorcana (the Disney TCG) decks after I finished a deadline, and now all I want is to buy boosters and open them 😭 But I found Pixelborn and have been playing it online!
I also watched True Detective: The Night Country which I enjoyed a lot more than season 1 (which was the only other one I watched, because after that I didn't really feel like watching the others). I've also been catching up with Death and Other Details, and watching Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which I love!! It looks better and better each episode.
And with that, I'll see you next time!
