Finding The Opportunities

Tales of a Creative Tales of a Creative

and claim those that you find.

Hello Reader,

I’ve returned back to my studies, in time I hope for releasing the next entry! Checks last entry date…12/7/26.

Anyways, the past couple of weeks have been a hectic, but eventful one. One of my main intentions of moving to New Zealand was to take in as many opportunities that presented themselves to me.

Taking up the scenery along Puhoi

Needless to say, these last few weeks have offered much to me on that front, and me in turn, have been occupied experiencing these moments…without trying to break my wallet in the process. Let’s see what we have Unscrambles a parchment stained with water, food and a great deal of mud

  • Attending a Matariki Dawn Service Ceremony, learning the significance of this event for the Maori, connecting with other New Zealanders, marking my values and aspirations to the Matariki Star Constellation, indulging in delicious kai (food), including…a pig’s tail? 🌃

  • Visiting community and farmer’s markets, browsing hand-made goods and discovering New Zealand local businesses 🥕

  • Attending (and working!) at the Auckland Food Show, where food, beverage and a great pocket of money, food and an over-sized stomach left the venue 🍯

  • Planting Native Trees and plants with different NZ communities - giving back to the land and connecting to nature 🌲

  • Embarking on new walks to cool places 🥾

  • Pledged my first private investment into a New Zealand business 💰

Mosquito Beach - A very pretty beach with no mossies!

These was the sort of moments I desired when I first moved to New Zealand. Immersing oneself with another land’s culture, scenery, activities and people opens a new perspective into what life is like in the wider world. In the process, you also grow as an individual: Form new skills, re-evaluate your way of thinking and connect with new areas you probably hadn’t before. And to think New Zealand is a similar country to Australia in some aspects!

Personally, I have also had a moment to really think about what my outcome is over this time-frame. It was as if my mind’s threads loosened from their knots into a trail that was made clear. Whether that the Matariki time period played a role or not is unknown, but one thing was made apparent to me - I took that window to sit down, write out what I really wanted: where my life was going, who am I, what do I want to achieve during my time in New Zealand and what do I wish to accomplish. Since then, I’ve been making steps to gradually incorporate these into my life where I can take action on them. And so far, it is going well!

Why you should find your opportunities

Zoom out here, I’m not throwing these here as a way to boast about my experiences. I wanted to write this as a message to you to go and seek the opportunities that are accessible within your time-frame and try them out!

I think that as our lives are consumed in a fleeting, monotonous, race of staying afloat whilst time evades us quicker than what we can comprehend, seeing these opportunities and taking them up every so often breaks that sameness in your life. Just a couple of hours is enough to pull yourself out, slow down and engage in something you otherwise wouldn’t normally do.

It could be going beyond the comforts of home on a micro-adventure, checking out a place or an event that’s near where you reside, connecting with the local community or businesses. Maybe you turn down a different walking trail and see where that leads, or you skip past your regular cafe and try a new place out. It may even be as simple as finding that perfect moment where your mind is made clear and figure out what it is you actually want. I know I may have repeated some of this in prior entries but when it comes to finding opportunity, that’s what you do. Either way, I hope this inspires you to be aware of any opportunities in your life and take them up.

Have there been any opportunities that you’re finding to claim?
