Facebook has a new Creator Studio
Facebook has revived its Creator Studio as a stand-alone AI app after it was previously closed down in 2023. The app is currently being tested by selected creators but it is intended to assist creators with suggesting and drafting posts and replies to comments the AI deems the most important and relevant.
Instagram TV is now on Samsung TVs
Instagram is now available on Samsung TVs across the US, significantly expanding the number of TV devices which will have Instagram as Samsung accounts for 1 in 3 TVs in the US. Users can send Reels from their phone to their TV and they can consume content in vertical or horizontal formats. Browsing social media on your TV may seem odd to some but it will become increasingly common as microdramas become more popular.
TikTok allows keywords to be added or blocked
TikTok now allows creators to add or block keywords on videos after they are published, giving creators more control over how their content appears in the algorithm. Users can also block terms automatically assigned to their content by TikTok, and removing a term also removes related terms.
YouTube have announced a handful of updates to Shorts:
A 2X playback speed option, so users can watch Shorts twice as fast
The ‘Dislike’ button has been removed, leaving only ‘Not Interested’ and ‘Don’t recommend this channel’
The thumb’s-up ‘Like’ button has been replaced with a heart emoji
The introduction of a “Clear Screen” mode which hides all icons from view during playback
LinkedIn launches Collaborative Posts
LinkedIn is testing Collaborative Posts, a feature allowing users to co-author posts that appear on each collaborator's profile, reaching the combined audience rather than just the original author's.
The feature works for both personal profiles and company pages. As it is in testing, it is unclear how many collaborators a single post can have and who can edit or delete it once live, but a wider rollout is expected in the coming months.
Canva Grow 2.0 builds on Canva Grow by enabling AI to generate ads, analyse performance, bulk publish simultaneously across Meta, TikTok, and LinkedIn, and create new ads based on what's working – all in one dashboard. It takes Canva from a design tool to an end-to-end marketing automation platform.
Roblox releases Shop and discounts
Roblox has announced Shop, a personalised in-game storefront launching July 7th. It's auto-generated for each game, showing passes, developer products, and Robux packages tailored to each player, and creators can review and adjust theirs in the Creator Hub before it goes live.
Separately, Roblox is testing promotional discounts on avatar items, fully funded by the platform so the discount doesn't come out of the creator's pocket. Both sit alongside Roblox Plus, the $4.99/month subscription launched in April, and are part of Roblox's clear push to make the platform a viable revenue stream for independent developers.
