The wisdom of the crowd
When I photographed what would become Fault Lines, I walked past this building every day. Every day, I imagined living in the apartment and having this kind of space available. Every day, I imagined sitting on this chair, possibly with a pad of paper and a pen by my side.
I’ve long argued that we view photographs not necessarily based on what they show but, instead, based on what we project onto them. Now, I’m viewing this photograph differently. I’m imagining that I am living there and that that empty chair points at my own state of mind, in particular as far as photography is concerned.
I’m going to put CPhMag.com into hiatus for the rest of the summer. Taking a short break from it feels right, in particular since I’ve produced something every week for I don’t even know how many years. My batteries are seriously depleted.
But I also need to re-evaluate what I’m doing with the site. I try to do that regularly: what am I doing, what can I improve, what can I add, what can I let go of?
This is where you have the chance to come in: assuming you can find the time and/or are interested, I’m curious what your ideas might be. What might you want to read about? Or what might you want to see that you don’t see elsewhere?
I’ll be grateful for any ideas, suggestions, criticism from your end.
