10:45 AM Morning Worship: Elder Terry Carnes will be leading us in worship and Elder Michael Nowling will be preaching.
Sermon: ”Blessing in Worship and Life”
Scripture: Psalm 1

12:30 PM Adult Sunday School: Join us as we will be looking at the way the gospel, by the power of the Spirit, makes dead sinners to be living saints.

Children Sunday School: Deb Bowen will be teaching children from 3 years on up, in the front Sunday School room.

There is no Church Luncheon this week: Every 5th Sunday we give everyone an opportunity to invite others into their homes after Sunday School and practice the art of hospitality!

Snacks: All are welcome to bring snacks as they desire.

Special Prayer Requests

• Mark and Martha Herzer - Mark is having his triple bypass surgery Friday, August 28th (tomorrow). Please keep him in prayer and the rest of his family. May the Lord have mercy on him and on us and provide Mark with strength and the medical staff with wisdom and skill.

  Lord willing, Mark will then spend the next 4 days in the hospital recovering and under observation, and then the next 5 weeks recovering at home. During his time in the hospital, Martha has asked Terry to be her update person. She will send him updates on Mark, and then he will forward those updates to the rest of the church.

  While Mark recovers, he will be on medical leave. If you have any questions or any needs, please contact one of the elders. Their contact information is on the back of the weekly bulletin, or you can just reply to this newsletter.

• Josephs's Father - Praise God for successful bypass surgery. Please pray for his continued recovery.

• Paul Hammond - We praise the Lord that Paul's recent fall did not result in any broken bones. Please pray as he recovers from a very sore shoulder.

• Jeff & Elena Kermah - Praise God that more and more are attending their Sunday morning worship. Pray that the Lord will provide a larger place to meet. Their current place is becoming too cramped and hot (even with fans). Jeff asks specific prayer that he might be able to disciple a certain young man who is in his final year of college.
  

  Continue to pray for Elena and her health as she homeschools the older children.

August Hymn Sing

Around 20 people gathered Wednesday (yesterday) on the Carnes' deck to sing some favorite Psalms and Hymns.

The Lord blessed us with beautiful weather as well as some delicious desserts!

Catechism Review

Don’t forget to keep up with your Westminster Shorter Catechism (WSC)! We are reviewing Q&A #61 & #62 this week:

Q. 61. What is forbidden in the fourth commandment?

A. The fourth commandment forbiddeth the omission or careless performance of the duties required, and the profaning the day by idleness, or doing that which is in itself sinful, or by unnecessary thoughts, words or works, about our worldly employments or recreations.

Q. 62. What are the reasons annexed to the fourth commandment?

A. The reasons annexed to the fourth commandment are, God’s allowing us six days of the week for our own employments, his challenging a special propriety in the seventh, his own example, and his blessing the sabbath day.

Upcoming Events

August 28th - Mark's bypass surgery

September 2nd, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. - Prayer Meeting via Zoom. After a devotional we will spend some time in prayer. Contact one of the elders if you would like to receive the weekly Zoom link.

August 30 - September 27 - Michael Nowling filling our pulpit.

September 19th - Presbytery meeting at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Willow Grove.

September 30th, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. - September Hymn Sing - location to be announced.

Guest Speaker

We are looking forward to having Teaching Elder Michael Nowling fill our pulpit while our pastor recovers from surgery. Many of you will remember Michael as he has filled in for Pastor Mark several times before.

Michael is a bivocational missionary serving with Church Without Walls alongside Anees Zaka. After studying pharmaceutics at Purdue University, Michael served with the Navigators at the University of Arkansas. Moving to southeastern Pennsylvania to attend Westminster Seminary, he met his wife Sarah, a Harleysville native. He and Sarah have three daughters, Naomi, Claire, and Julia. In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and reading.

We look forward to Michael being with us over the next several weeks!
