Episode 44: 1994 with Scott Wampler
A podcast about the great movie years.
Scott Wampler had his 13-year-old brain entirely re-arranged by a movie he saw in 1994, so he joins us to talk about how that happened, and what else he saw that year that stuck with him. This terrific film writer and podcaster co-hosts the “Kingcast,” a deep dive into the work and adaptations of Stephen King, so you won’t be surprised to learn that his list includes a King movie, and a movie kinda sorta about a King-like figure. Enjoy!
Pulp Fiction is currently streaming on HBO Max, available for digital rental or purchase, and has a very good recent-ish 4K release. Oh, and if you’d like to read Jason’s book on the movie, it’s out of print as physical media, but you can get it used or on Kindle. You can also read an excerpt from it here.
The Shawshank Redemption is available for digital rental or purchase, and it also got a nice 4K recently. Natural Born Killers is available for digital rental or purchase and is getting what will probably be a nice 4K (since it’s from Shout Factory).
Clerks is streaming on Showtime (and its various iterations), and available for digital rental or purchase. And finally, In the Mouth of Madness is available for digital rental or purchase.
Oh, and once upon a time, Jason interviewed David Letterman about hosting the Oscars that one time, which we mentioned. Here’s that.
And for our picks, Chungking Express is on the Criterion Channel and HBO Max, and here’s Quentin’s intro from the old Rolling Thunder VHS release:
And The Paper is available for digital rental or purchase.
