Episode 42: 1932 with Sarah Bea Milner
A podcast about the great movie years.
This week, we’re joined by Sarah Bea Milner, our first writer/editor/folk musician! She is currently the editor at Kidscreen, and she has bylines at Polygon, /Film, Screen Rant and more, and her area of expertise is classic horror - so she picked 1932, a year of mummies and freaks and old, dark houses.
Freaks is streaming on something called Classix? So you can try your luck there? Or you can just rent or purchase it.
The Mummy is available for digital rental or purchase, but really, you should pick up the excellent Universal Horror 4K or Blu-ray sets, where it is a highlight.
You can watch Murders in the Rue Morgue on the Roku Channel (with ads), or it too is available for digital rental or purchase.
The Old Dark House is streaming on MUBI, Kanopy, and Fandor, and you can rent or buy that one as well.
The Most Dangerous Game is on the Criterion Channel, Max, Kanopy, and a whole mess of ad-supported streamers (but be carefully, a bunch of them are streaming a shitty colorized version).
If you’d like to hear that Marie Dressler episode of the You Must Remember This spin-off series “Make Me Over,” by our friend Farran Smith Nehme, here’s a link to that. And here is the Silly Symphony short Flowers and Trees that we discuss during Awards and Box Office:
Mike’s pick for 1932, Que Viva Mexico, is also available in its entirety on the YouTubes, though annoyingly, it’s not embeddable. But The Dentist is!
As always, if you’d like to log and review these yourself, head on over to our list page on Letterboxd.
Oh, and hey, have you upgraded to a paid subscription yet? You can do that right here, and here’s what it’ll get you (spoiler: bonus episodes, bonus posts, and our undying love). As we mention in the ad, if you’re an Apple Podcasts listener and you’d like to just get the bonus episodes, you can do that with an Apple Premium subscription.
