Episode 38: 1997 with Craig D. Lindsey
A podcast about the great movie years.
Craig D. Lindsey was a working critic in 1997, so he has a lot of pleasant moviegoing (and reviewing) memories from that year; he also made a top ten list at the time, so he took particular pleasure out of revisiting and revising those favorites. And there were many: a new Tarantino, a new David Lynch, breakthroughs for Paul Thomas Anderson and Matt and Ben, and a big blockbuster about a big boat.
And here is that ten-best list he wrote at the end of 1997. It’s changed!
Normally we’d drop headline-related videos into the subscribers-only headlines post later in the week, but this is too good not to share with any and everybody:
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery is available for digital rental or purchase.
Lost Highway is streaming on the Criterion Channel; they also put out an excellent Blu-ray and 4K last year. And here’s that poster we mentioned:
L.A. Confidential is available for digital rental or purchase.
Boogie Nights is streaming on Hulu, but only for like two more days, so get on it if you haven’t seen it! Aside from that, it’s also available for digital rental or purchase.
And lucky you, Jackie Brown is streaming on Amazon Prime Video, in addition to the usual digital rental or purchase platforms. And here’s the piece Craig wrote about it for Crooked Marquee.
As always, if you’d like to log and review these yourself, head on over to our list page on Letterboxd.
Oh, and hey, have you upgraded to a paid subscription yet? You can do that right here, and here’s Mike and I telling you what it’ll get you (spoiler: bonus episodes, bonus posts, and our undying love).
