Hi there, Joe Biden Here: Let's cut the malarkey, I need your money

We're going monthly and we're also not changing anything at all

Now that I have your attention…

The Spring photoletter email will come out soon! Some stuff came up and I’ve been super busy, so I didn’t have a chance to collect my thoughts on the next project yet.

In the meantime, I’ll be working on doing monthly posts/emails with a few photos I’ve taken recently.

This month, there was a skatefest at the Old Fourth Ward skate park off the Beltline I wandered into while doing some skyline photography. While I haven’t taken too many action photos before, it was a fun challenge to learn on the fly! At one point, it felt like a shift had occurred where I less thought about how to frame and more considered how to convey what it was like to be there.

Crescent Ridge Ride

Probably the most technically satisfying out of the group. The grey foil to the colorful skater against a varied green background works wonderfully. Similarly, the gentle curve of the bowl and the skater result in a near perfect 2/3rds ratio.

Miscommunication

Getting the moment where a skater decides to bail as another skater nearly runs into them brought a big grin to my face, sheepishly and quickly hushed in light of the frustration of the two guys in front of me.

Overtime Hang

Honestly, it’s the outfit on a bright pink board that's doing it for me more than anything else. The harsh contrast of the slightly peaked dulled white concrete compliments and wraps together the whole piece.

Pit Stop

The best expression of the zone/mentality/headspace I mentioned above. Folks wandered in front of you, conversations uninterrupted or a can quickly raised to quench a thirst, or simply ambling about unconcerned. Between the mass of bodies, you chance flashes of board and rider sinking in and out of the bowl and along ridges.

Uncrossed

The second most technically satisfying piece, largely due to a different take on the 2/3rds ratio. Here, I managed to catch the skater as they ducked their head down and, thus, brought the head just under line with the bowl ridge. Managing a crisp, tight focus with flirts of bokeh settle the whole affair well.

Anyways.

I’ll send an email about the next crazy little art project that I’ve been chewing on next in a few weeks. Hopefully you’ve gotten your MARTA trading cards if you wanted them. Feel free to mention them to your friends to provoke a jealous spirit in them. Also, take care to do a double take as you ride around MARTA as you may start to see trading cards sprinkled around stations…
