The Conversation

A response to a simple and urgent reality: firearm suicide is the leading cause of gun-related death in Pennsylvania.

We know that most people who survive a suicide attempt do not go on to reattempt. We also know that most do not switch methods.

Because firearms are so immediately deadly, a short moment of crisis is far more likely to end in death when a gun is involved.

Yet firearm suicide is still seen as a private, unavoidable tragedy, with mental health care often treated as the only solution, even though it isn’t enough on its own.

The Conversation is a newsletter focused on changing that understanding. It helps readers see firearm suicide as a community-level issue that calls for shared responsibility and community action.

Each issue offers clear information and practical insight to help communities build safer everyday practices, strengthen local resources, and have better public conversations about prevention.

It’s meant to be something you keep, like a file you save because you know you’ll come back to it.
