The Zevvletter #4 — Cake, stopping hate for profit and biscuits
Hello! You’re getting this email because at some point you signed up for updates about Zevvle, the mobile network built for you. If you don’t want to get these emails, definitely unsubscribe — we only want to send these to you if you look forward to getting them. ✌️
Hello, and happy Saturday!
Stopping hate for profit
In June, the #StopHateForProfit campaign was announced — a call for companies to stop advertising on Facebook during July. Why? Because for too long Facebook have profited from people and organisations inciting violence and spreading hate on their platform.
Whether it works or not is to be seen, but even though 1,000s of companies have joined it's still only a fraction of Facebook's revenue. We've never advertised on either Facebook or Instagram and closed both our accounts last year, and we hope many more companies will join us for the long-term!
Biscuits and app updates
Most websites nowadays track you, and with the onslaught of slow tracking scripts and cookie pop-ups — whether necessary or not — the experience of the web has worsened. We love the open web and don't want to contribute to the junk, and a few months ago removed the pop-up from our website completely. This is how we don’t track you and our updated, mostly-useless 111-word biscuit policy.
We also released version 1.2.1 of our app with lots of fixes; if you haven't already you can download it for iOS or Android via the Play Store of from our F-Droid repository. You can find the list of changes here.
Receipts in Monzo and API webhooks
For the developers, we enabled API webhooks for call record and charge events, and there's also an AWS Lambda function for adding your Zevvle receipts to Monzo.
Have a great rest of July! :)
