The Zevvletter #2 — our annual accounts, the length of an SMS and 2020 vision 👀
Hello! You’re getting this email because at some point you signed up for updates about Zevvle, the mobile network built for you. If you don’t want to get these emails, definitely unsubscribe (link below) — we only want to send these to you if you look forward to getting them. ✌️
Since our first Zevvletter* last decade, a lot has happened. But enough of the intro, let’s get to it!
*If you can think of a better name do let us know.
No more pricing updates
It took us a while to get our pricing right last year; we made 3 substantial updates in ~6 months which was 3 too many, but hindsight is 2020 (ha…ha). That was bad, and some of you rightly expressed concerns about the frequent changes.
That’s now behind us and we’re making no further changes (at least for now — we’d still like to lower prices in the future!). We’re happy with the tiered pricing change and things are looking good! Thank you to everyone who has given their feedback over the last few months. 😊
Why Zevvle?
As you may have read in our 2020 vision blog, one thing we’re working on this year is growing, sustainably. That means getting better at talking about who we are and why anyone would join.
To start with that, we’ve just updated our website focusing on 2 of those reasons: 1) only paying for the data you use (great for variable usage, and now with some great tiers!), and 2) managing multiple SIMs, whether you have kids, extra phones, tablets or Wi-Fi routers.
Along with a cleaner look (and less monstrous red), we also updated the pricing page to make that more clear, along with a handy calculator.

In case you missed some of our weekly musings/rants…
Show me the money
Balance sheets, income statements, losing millions (not us!) and being transparent. We recently submitted our first corporate accounts and decided to make them public.
2020 vision
Our story so far and what’s coming this year. Also a few stats from 2019; for example, you made and received 13,290 calls for a total of 510 hours on the phone and sent 6,306 text messages on our network!
The length of an SMS Part 1: Bits of Encoding
Text messages are weird, and so are computers. This is part 1 delving into why that is with a little bit on bytes, character encodings and a slight detour via UTF (we explain what that is!).
There’s also Roaming is for roaming (or how some networks are deceptive with international calls), Rewarding Rewards (or why we’re not part of any reward programs) and All about call records (where they came from, what’s in them and how you can get them).
We hope you had a great start to the year, and have a fabulous February!
