fried

That's the state of my brain right now, which has been on short deadlines for big projects basically since we kicked off 2019. So there's nothing in this Tinyletter today but links, because one of those projects is now something you can read (and hopefully enjoy).

It's a big piece I did for Buzzfeed about injectables-- you know, fillers and Botox-- and about how Instagram and influencers are changing the norms around how we talk about getting work done on our faces. I got to interview a bunch of celebrity plastic surgeons for this one, as well as one (1) bona fide celebrity: Lisa Vanderpump Herself. It was really fun and really horrifying to write, and has given me good cocktail party chatter for weeks now, which is always a side benefit to being deep in a story: when someone asks how I am I can give them a condensed lecture on the state of cosmetic procedures in America instead of having to say "haha, you know, good. Same."

Next week you'll be able to read my judgement in the zombie round of The Morning News' Tournament of Books! I'll send you a link when it happens, but I'd suggest starting before we get there because the Tournament is one of the best literary events every year, IMHO.

Another favorite is the LA Times Festival of Books, where I'll be  moderating a panel in April! I'm talking friends and "friends" with three excellent LA authors: Aminah Mae Safi, Julie Buxbaum and Cecil Castellucci.

Okay, off to finish editing another big Buzzfeed piece, and then a book proposal and two books!!!!!!! And trying not to think about if I just got one cosmetic procedure done, just ONE, which one would it be. (I'm not getting any cosmetic procedures done; I don't even care enough to cover the greys in my bangs and I could do that for $10 in the comfort of my own home.) (Also where does it end, you know, and I have no interest in looking well-preserved, but talking to these doctors just made it seem kind of... fun! Like what if for three months I had a chin, you know?) (I have a perfectly fine chin.)
