Five Finds: Stealth Campers and Retro

Five Finds

Man loves surfing so much he lives on a beach and capitalism brights back film cameras.

A secret beach house inside a box truck

A few weeks ago I fell down into another YouTube rabbit hole of camper vans. Lots of people are recording themselves camping in areas where it's technically illegal, like their university parking. This one is less about being stealth and more about being awesome, literally the most beautiful and comfortable camper build by a guy who just wanted to be close to surfing (so he lives at the beach for half a year now).

Lomography made a new film camera that charges with USB-C

The demand for retro is so big that 30-year-old point-and-shoot cameras are going for $400 on eBay. Some now cost $1000.

Capitalism to the rescue; LOMO is a well-known producer of film and cheap/primitive reusable cameras that is about to release an actually good point-and-shoot with capable lens and USB-C. $500. I expect lots of takers.

Acronyms behind your iPhone: ASML and TSMC

Two companies with weird names are essential for Apple Silicon chips. It's TSMC and AMSL. TSMC produces chips designed by Apple and uses ASML-made machines to do so. This is a good video on them.

Each ASML extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machine contains over 100,000 individual parts, costs around $400 million, and is the most complex device ever built by humans even more intricate than a space shuttle. The mirrors inside (made by Zeiss in Germany) are so smooth that if they were the size of the United States, the tallest bump would be only 1 millimeter high.

Chipotle stock craters as company

Chipotle stock craters as company says young people without jobs can't afford their food anymore.

Their stock fell by 50% (from $90B to $44B) in the 16 months since a Wells Fargo analyst bought 75 identical Chipotle bowls to compare the weight and found that the food chain clearly had consistency issues with portion sizes. He used this chart in the report!

Christoph Waltz Eats His Last Meal

Don't worry, Christoph is fine. This is just one of my new favorite YouTube shows that hosted him to eat some food. This is a man of peculiar taste, but always enjoying to watch. Another all-time favorite is Terry Crews.

What would be your last meal?

Bonus: Tinder Height Filter on a Chart

The chart comparing reported and actual height looks just like you'd expect it. I imagine the global version had all shenanigans around 180cm instead of 6ft.

Btw, I'm 181cm.
