Presentation Week

The past week has been pretty busy.

I finished up TA orientation yesterday. It was the first time that I planned it alone, but luckily, I had a template from the previous 2 years when I ran it with a faculty member. All things said, I think it went pretty well, although there were a few minor hiccups along the way.

It was great seeing the faces of so many new people who are just starting out their time as TAs; I vividly remember the time I got my TA offer in the email in the summer of 2016. I honestly think my TA job largely precipitated my decision to go to grad school. I’m a very different person today than I was before (I don’t nearly enjoy teaching as much as I used to, and want to focus more on research), but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a very formative experience.

Now that TA training is (largely) over, I can focus on my presentation for next week. I will be meeting with someone from Jetbrains to present the data from my reachability question study (WIP). I hate presentations, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to share some cool ideas with the folks from Jetbrains and see what they have to say. Of course, this means that I’ll have to refine my paper prototype for next week, and that’s gonna be a lot of work. After that, I’ll probably rehearse the presentation so I don’t embarrass myself completely and ruin this opportunity.

Today, some folks in the lab came and attended virtual POPL, which I thought was pretty cool. Jonathan and Paulette were made finalists in the Student Research Competition. I still can’t believe I’m in the same lab as these people. They’re crazy lol.

See you next week, more on Jetbrains if all goes well.
