ICSE Day 4: Prehistoric Planet

No matter what people might say or think, the subtitle of tonight’s newsletter (Prehistoric Planet) does not refer to the senior researchers I met at ICSE. I opted for a bit of a early end to the night, and I started watching an episode of Prehistoric Planet, the new 5-part documentary about dinosaurs narrated by David Attenborough.

I also had a later start to the day because I realized that going to bed at 2am and waking up before 8am to shower and get ready for the first session of the day was unsustainable. I decided to let myself sleep in today until past 9am and then slowly mosey on over to the conference centre.

There honestly weren’t too many new photos to take today. You can only take so many photos of the same background of people staring awkwardly at posters or half-listening to a talk until they merge and became nearly indistinguishable from one another. I think tomorrow, I’ll leave my camera in my room and just chill out and go to a few sessions that I’m actually interested in.

Speaking of session, tomorrow is when most of the Human Aspects of SE papers are going to be presented, which coincides with the research that I’m conducting. I’ll probably wake up (or try to wake up) slightly early so I can make it on time. In terms of talking to more folks, I didn’t really meet anyone new today. I just spent a bunch of time chatting with Caroline. I won’t disclose what we chatted about publicly, but it turns out professors (or at least early-stage ones), are a lot like grad students in terms of what they think about their own research.

That’s it for tonight, back to Dinos
