Ick Sea Day 1
I'm going to admit, it took me a few times to correctly navigate to this website where I do my blog/newsletter posting. But hey, I made it. It's been quite a long day so I'm probably going to do a stream-of-consciousness dump.
I woke up pretty early this morning (Pacific-time wise) at around 8am. This is equivalent to 5am back home so I was pretty tired. It turned out I still needed to complete my registration for ICSE and get my lanyard. After that was done, I spent most of my day weaving in and out of sessions and getting some photos for the conference. Some of them look pretty decent, but others are just okay...
It turns out today wasn't even the first "real" day of ICSE; MSR (Mining Software Repositories) is still happening and ICSe proper starts tomorrow. As a result, I didn't have too many photos to take. Most of my time was spent talking with the other student volunteers, who seem nice enough.
The "newcomers reception" was at 7pm, and the promise of food was so enticing that I didn't bother having too much of lunch. This turned out to be a mistake, since it appeared that the only food was cheese and dip. I had enough liquid courage to sing "Never Gonna Give You Up" at the open karaoke session. Probably not my best decision, but why miss a chance for the SPL to represent.
After the "reception," a couple of folks from the University of Florida, and UVic, and Matti went to a taco place, which was pretty decent. Tomorrow, I'll be chatting with more folks, including Caroline, who just landed late this evening.
That's all for now!
