First Night

Today was an early start. I barely got any sleep last night since I had to wake up anyway at 3am to get to YVR in time to catch my 6am flight. Turns out, this was a bad idea, since the security checkpoint didn't open until 4am.

I had an incredibly solid experience with the Westjet flight to Toronto. Unlike Air Canada, which seems to almost have a guaranteed delay each day, we managed to board everyone on time and actually left early. Unfortunately, lightning failed to strike twice, as my flight to LaGuardia from Pearson was delayed by over an hour.

I'd honestly be fine with that; I wasn't going to do much the first night anyway. However, the delay occurred after we were all boarded. Being in a small plane with a bunch of strangers wasn't great for me, and I fantasized about just leaving the plane and getting a flight back to YVR.

Anyway, after many hours spent travelling, I finally arrived at LaGuardia. It turns out that there are free buses that shuttle people from the airport to a subway station (LaGuardia Q70-SBS to Jackson Heights). I took one of these, and then promptly took the train going in the other direction, which ultimately cost me 15 minutes. No big deal.

I finally arrived at Columbus Circle station, and walked the remaining 4 blocks to where I'd be staying. This is my first time in a hostel, so the experience is a bit new to me. It feels incredibly similar to living in a dorm, which I did in the first year of undergrad. Still have to get used to the communal showers, though...

Anyway, before I went in for the night, I did the touristy thing and went to Times Square. I would upload the photos here, but the internet connection at the hostel is unbearably slow.

Tomorrow, I'll be going to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and checking out some bars.
