Familiar Faces
It's going to be a short(er) newsletter this week, but there's still stuff to chat about!
Back in January, I ordered an ergonomic chair. I've been moving from place-to-place for the last 5 years, and strangely enough, there were always these wooden Ikea dining chairs. These were the chairs I used when I was working at home. Pre-COVID, this wasn't a huge deal. I was barely home anyway (most days I came back just to sleep and I enjoy going to cafes on the weekends to do work), so I didn't really need a nice chair.
Fast-forward to nearly a year into WFH; I finally bit the bullet and got myself a nice chair. It's only been two days, but I can definitely say that it's better than the old dining chairs. If things are indeed in-person in the fall, I'm going to bring it to the lab.
I also received a very cool postcard this week from a member of the lab. I never get mail and the pieces of mail I usually get are related to banking or whatever, so I was super surprised. It definitely made my day. I'm planning to get it laminated so I can can stick it to my cubby in the lab, along with a sketch that my friend made of the computer science building two years ago.
BC recently loosened restrictions to allow outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people last week, and the lab was quick to organize a Saturday social. We met at the bottom of Queen Elizabeth Park and walked up to the top. It was my first time seeing a lot of the people from the lab in nearly a year. Seeing a lot of people in-person definitely felt surreal. I'm really looking forward to a time when we're all vaccinated and can safely gather.
A sense of optimism seems to be in the air, and I hope for once that it won't turn sour in the next few weeks. Until then. goodbye.
