I've had a beer, and I'm definitely feeling it right now. It's surprising how buzzed I can get on a 4.67% sour from Taylight Brewing in PoCo. I don't know how I did it in undergrad. Maybe this is what it feels like to slowly get old.
I spent most of last week finishing up onboarding (who knew it would be this comprehensive), and starting work on my project. By "starting work" I mean starting to write a technical design document. I haven't written any actual code yet. I don't mind writing a design document, but it's a lot more upfront planning than what I'm used to (Agile development, am I right?).
To be honest, I wish I had the opportunity to write code. Most of my hard technical tasks at work consists of reviewing code written by members of my team, which is totally fine. That said, there's a distinct difference between reviewing code and writing code. Hopefully I'll get to write some soon.
Some great news: occupancy in the lab is now open to up to 10 people! I spent no time in getting access to our lab calendar and reviewing COVID occupancy agreements. I think I'll try to work from the lab at least one day a week. It keeps me away from being a cave basement troll and I'll get to see some of my labmates.
