[🏔️ yodel ⛰️] Day 12: Grindelwald
Hello from a very sunny Grindelwald, where I have shed my down jacket for my bulky windbreaker instead.
Our plan was to visit Lauterbrunnen and see the Staubbach and Trummelbach Falls. Unfortunately plans changed and we ended up just seeing the former.
It's easy to see why Tolkein was inspired by this place. It's equal parts majestic and bucolic.
Since it's late summer, most of the falls are drying up. The Staubbach Falls had a mere dusting of water. Still dramatic when you see it in person, but hardly visible in photographs.
SD started feeling very poorly around the time we reached the Talmuseum (closed! Only open from 2pm.) so we decided to return. I've only got one husband, and the Trummelbach falls will be around for a much longer time.
On the way back, I spotted a pair of very graphic posters and a delicious looking patch of veggies.
This is the entire Lauterbrunnen region:
It's an incredibly small town, but it has it's own laundromat. We were contemplating bringing our laundry here to wash but it turns out our clothes hardly stink.
For lunch, we found a sweet little cafe in Grindelwald that served expensive but extremely delicious food. Compared to last night's travesty at Barry's, this was such a great meal.
This was the star of the show: a lemongrass soup. I have no idea how they did it but it was all at once very lemongrassy and herby but also very un-Asian. I wish I could have had an entire pot.
The ravioli was also very good. One of the rare meals where I didn't have any meat, and yet I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Am I becoming a veggie lover?
For dessert, I popped by a local gelato shop and got a scoop of Puffo (that's what they call a "Smurf" in Italy) and Straciatella.

Then we rested in the room — or rather, SD rested and I basically booked a flight to Japan. Don't look at me like that. I'm just YOLO-ing!!!!!
What else should I do on my sabbatical other than travel and work from abroad?
Now I've got to head out to look for dinner, and then return to pack our suitcases for our move to Munich tomorrow! It's a whole day of travelling so wish us luck!
